Information on AOYC
Albanian Orthodox Youth Council
The
Albanian Orthodox Youth Council is the youth organization of the OCA’s
Albanian Archdiocese and is currently in the process of being restructured.
Under the spiritual direction of Fr. Theodore Sakellar and through the guidance
of the Department of Youth, Young Adult and Campus Ministries, the AOYC is
slowly starting to regroup and reform. According to Fr. Theodore Sakellar,
“I am very excited about the new OCAY deanery based youth movement,
and am looking forward to staying within that framework as we revitalize the
Albanian Orthodox Youth Council on an Archdiocesan level”.
The need
for the restructure of the AOYC has been apparent to the Archdiocese for some
time, but a lack of resources and available youth ministers has hampered the
efforts to rebuild the program. After a successful youth retreat in Worcester,
Massachusetts in March, 2003 however, the need for the youth movement became
apparent, and Fr. Theodore Sakellar quickly took on the task of spiritual
director of the Council.
Although still in the planning stages for many areas of the restructure of
the program, plans are currently underway for several youth events to take
place within the Archdiocese. A youth retreat is being planned by the Worcester,
MA chapter of the AOYC for Fall, 2003, as well as an Archdiocese-wide youth
fellowship gathering in New York City later this year.
