Prayers for Travellers

When traveling by land

"O Lord Jesus Christ our God, the true and living Way, Who did will to journey with Your seeming father, Joseph, and Your most-pure Virgin Mother, into Egypt, and did accompany Luke and Cleopas to Emmaus. We now humbly entreat You, O Most-holy Master: accompany now us, Your servants, with Your grace. And as You did unto Tobias, send also an Angel as guide and guardian, protecting us from every evil circumstance resulting from enemies, both visible and invisible; directing us unto the fulfillment of Your commandments; and sending us on our way peacefully, profitably and soundly; and bringing us back again safely and peacefully. And grant that we may fulfill all our good purpose unto Your good pleasure, and favorably unto Your glory. For Your’s it is to be merciful and to save us, and unto You do we send up glory, together with Your Father Who is without beginning, and Your Most-holy, Good and Life-giving Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen."

When traveling by air

"O Master, Lord Jesus Christ our God, Who commands the elements and holds all things in the hollow of Your hand, before Whom the abysses tremble and to Whom the stars present themselves: all created things serve You, all listen to You, all obey you. You are able to do all things, O Most-gracious Lord; therefore, You can show mercy. Accepting now, therefore, the fervent supplication of us, Your servants, O Master bless our path and journey by air, forbidding also storms and contrary winds, preserving the airship whole and unharmed. Grant unto us a saving and storm-less passage through the air and the fulfillment of our good intent, and be well-pleased that we may return joyfully in good health. For You are the Savior, the Redeemer and the Giver of all good things, both heavenly and earthly, and unto You do we send up glory, together with Your Father Who is without beginning, and Your Most-holy, Good and Life-giving Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen."

When traveling by water

"O Master, Lord Jesus Christ our God, Who did walk upon the waters as on dry land, and did count Your Holy Disciples and Apostles worthy to travel together with You in the ship, and Who did forbid the stormy wind and did calm the waves of the sea: we humbly beseech You, O Savior, be pleased to sail together with us Your servants in this ship (boat), appeasing every contrary wind and storm. And raise up tolerable and timely winds for a favorable voyage, Yourself always being with us and our ship (boat) as the Helmsman, and a saving, calm, and tranquil Refuge. And as You did save Peter from drowning, with power and Your almighty right hand do You deliver us from every assault of enemies, both visible and invisible, and from misfortune, necessity and fear. And be well-pleased to return us in peace, health, and gladness, unto our own homes, having fulfilled our purpose and good intent, well and favorably, richly granting unto us Your rich and inexhaustible grace upon all our good deeds, and preserving the vessel whole and unharmed. For You are the Savior, the Redeemer, and the Giver of every good thing, both heavenly and earthly, and unto You do we send up glory, together with Your Father Who is without beginning, and Your Most-holy, Good, and Life-giving Spirit, now and every, and unto ages of ages. Amen."
