Staten Island, NY - Residents of Saints Cosmos and Damian Adult Home enjoyed an ice cream social and other activities with over two dozen young adults from parishes in Ohio, Illinois, New York, Delaware, New Jersey, Florida, Minnesota, and Alberta, Canada the weekend of October 9-10, 2004. Participants in the two-day service based event not only shared fellowship and worship with the home's residents, but also helped with landscaping, cleaning, painting, and other projects aimed at "sprucing up" the facility. Organized by Ms. Laura Herzak, the project was sponsored by the Fellowship of Orthodox Christians in America in cooperation with the OCA Department of Youth, Young Adult, and Campus Ministry. Ms. Herzak, the Rev. Michael Anderson, Department Director, and Mrs. Cheryl Morse, Department Chair, teamed up with with the home's operations director, Mr Basil Kozak, to develop the service project. On Sunday, October 10, the young adults traveled to the OCA Chancery in Syosset, NY where they attended Divine Liturgy at Saint Sergius of Radonezh Chape, met with Protopresbyter Robert Kondratich, OCA Chancellor, and enjoyed a tour of the OCA Archives. The service project was one of a series organized by the Department and the FOCA. Click here for photos from the event.
