From the Office: A New Millennium and a New YO-Mail

Hello, reader!

It has taken us a lot longer than we anticipated, but YO-Mail is back, and this time it is back to stay.  A lot has happened over the past year. Many of you may have already noticed the Orthodox Church in America’s newly designed website (www.oca.org) and the new things appearing on the youth and young adult page (www.oca.org/yya). We have an entirely new computer system and are now able to say with a bit of confidence, that you will be getting your YO-Mails each and every month. [Although, if you do encounter a problem, or talk to someone who does, PLEASE let us know.

With the new millennium now here, we thought we might do YO-Mail a bit differently, in the hopes of getting things out to you more often and giving you a bit more variety. Every issue will be distributed in two versions: an .html version for people who use programs like Microsoft Outlook and Eudora; and a plain text version for all you AOL folk. Of course, back issues will be posted on the website. [Go to www.oca.org/yo to see the back issues or brush up on all your YO-Mail news.] Second, we will feature two types of issues: the regular YO-Mail that you have come to know and love and special issues focusing on one topic. The "regular" issue will have all the usual sections:

ü      Food for the Soul: Short practical reflections on the scriptures, feast days, or lives of saints

ü      In the News: Current events in the Church and society affecting young adults

ü      An Orthodox Look: Orthodox reviews of TV, movies, and music

ü      On the Calendar: Upcoming events -- send in info on young adult events you are sponsoring, or have heard about.

ü      Real Questions, Real Answers!: Got a question? Send it in. We're committed to giving real answers to your questions.

ü      Reader’s Write: This is where we post your ideas on various topics that are chosen by you, the readers.

Some months YO-Mail will focus on a single topic. It could be anything from a detailed article on the Orthodox understanding of the ecology, to the entire lyrics to a popular song with some thoughts on how it relates to our spiritual lives. It could even be a page/chapter from a book on the Orthodox Faith, or the life of a saint. In these issues, you can never be sure what you will be getting!

So with this, we begin again. We here on the YO-Mail staff are geared up for some great issues. Just remember we need your input and ideas to make YO-Mail the best we can make it. If there is an issue you are facing at school, or a movie you saw, or just something you saw in the news that you would like to talk about, let us know! You can even write an article on in, and we’ll put it in an upcoming issue.

God bless! We’ll be talking to you soon!

In Christ,

The YO-Mail staff
